On the 29th of October 2017, thousands of people from Karagwe and other parts of the world the gathered at the proposed Karagwe University College (KARUCO) to mark the dedication of the buildings and infrastructure of KARUCO. “This far by faith and grace” was the dedication ceremony’s catchword.
Looking back in 2006 (when Bishop Dr. Benson Bagonza of the ELCT/Karagwe Diocese introduced the idea of establishing a university in Karagwe) and today (as KARUCO has students and is engaging in its mission of educating and empowering young people in various fields including agriculture, livestock and IT), we can only shout for joy and thank God for His amazing deeds. Surely, we have come this far by faith and grace!
By faith and grace, we broke the ground on the 11th of October 2012 and began a five years journey of putting up basic structures and infrastructure of KARUCO. While only a few people believed, something was going to happen, many people were skeptical and thought even the groundbreaking event was part of the day dream that started in 2006. During the first five years journey (from October 2012 to October 2017), a number of challenges were encountered. Nevertheless, by faith and grace, God always made a way for us and led us through.
By faith and grace, we hope and trust that God will continue to bless all our endeavours as we engage in training, research, community outreach and environmental conservation programs that will produce competent, skilled, entrepreneurial graduates, who will ethically and enthusiastically participate in building a prosperous, just and sustainable society.
On behalf of the former KARUCO’s Task Force, the board, my colleagues and the Karagwe Diocesan Management Team, I would like to thank all our internal and international partners for untiringly supporting the establishment of KARUCO.
We count on you.
God bless you!
